Shade and Light: Ruby footpath, in Kyai Kasan pagoda

Myanmar, Yangon, Kyai Kasan Township.

Thadingyut full moon, in october, sets the end of the period of lent marked by the monsoon.

To mark the way their Spiritual Master comes back on earth, Myanmar people light small candles in clay cups and set them on pagodas' platforms, along streets, down to their homes.

In this way they draw the "Ruby Footpath", a path of light in the darkness.

This ritual is repeated along the year, during the following celebrated full moons.

In November, at the occasion of Tazaungmone full moon, Kyai Kasan Paya is one of the major places illuminated by the celebrations.

Candles arranged in arrays form letters, building an illuminated pattern of Writings at the foot of the stupa.
