Celebrations and Festivals: Kason, the ritual of water

Myanmar, Yangon, Shwe Da Gon

Kason full moon takes place just before the rainy season. A critical time for the trees, when the wheather is hot and dry.

Pilgrims merge by hundreds on the pagodas' platforms, pour water in clay pots, and throw it on the banian trees, known as "Ficus Religiosa" or "Bodhi Trees"

By doing so, they take good care of a tree which they love, being the one under which their Spiritual Master achieved enlightenment, in Bodhgaya, India.
